It’s a centenary special at this year’s Armed Forces Day, with the Dudley Council event set to mark 100 years since the formation of the Royal Air Force and the end of World War I this weekend.
Run in association with Black Country Housing Group, the Himley Hall and Park event will celebrate the work of service men and women past and present on Sunday 1st July from 11am to 5pm.
Entertainment for all the family including vintage fairground rides, Punch and Judy shows and craft, food and vintage stalls will be on offer. There will also be paint balling provided by Dudley Army Cadet Force and an archery range, provided by Kingswinford Air Cadets squadron.
The Bluebird Belles, a vintage vocal harmony trio, and RAF Cosford Voluntary Band will perform on the day, veterans will be presented with their special medals and badges and there will be a display of current and historic military vehicles.
For adults there will be free historical talks on local WWI heroes in the hall, performances by the RAF Cosford Voluntary Band, a vintage tea tent as well as antiques and vintage paraphernalia on sale from the Halfpenny Green Antique and Vintage Centre.
Councillor Alan Taylor, The Mayor of Dudley, said: “This special event gives us the chance to reflect on the sacrifices that have been made by those who have served and those who continue to serve in the Armed Forces.
“It is also a wonderful event with a carnival atmosphere and there is something for all ages to enjoy.”
