Each year the dedication, commitment and sacrifice of the Armed Forces, past and present, Reserves and Regulars, are honoured across the country during Armed Forces Week, which this year takes place from 25th to 30th June 2018 .
The week gives the nation the chance to celebrate the Armed Forces and the work they do to keep us safe. Numerous councils and businesses will hold events during the week to show their support for the Armed Forces and to raise money for military charities.
Armed Forces personnel are deployed in operational theatres around the world, often in dangerous and difficult conditions. They are helping other nations’ humanitarian and peacekeeping efforts as well as protecting the UK. Your support for them and their families is vital.
Of course this week, not only celebrates serving members of the Armed Forces, but covers the diverse Armed Forces community which includes Reservists, veterans, cadets and Service families. (Anyone who has previously served is deemed a veteran regardless of age, and are a valued part of our society).
Reserves Day, Wednesday 27th June 2018
Reservists play a central role alongside Regulars to meet Defence requirements, through their dedication and professionalism, particularly providing capability in specialist areas such as medical and cyber sectors. Reservists give up their spare time to serve in the Reserve Forces, balancing their civilian life with a military career, and are increasingly paired with and train alongside Regular units, and when required, may deploy on operations with them. Reservists now have access to the same equipment and technology as Regulars and receive high-quality, challenging training, including more opportunities to train overseas.
