In August our Employer Engagement team attended a community engagement lunch held by D Squadron The Royal Yeomanry at their Army Reserve Centre in Telford.
The afternoon was a fantastic opportunity for representatives from local communities, businesses and organisations such as the High Sheriff of Shropshire, Shropshire Council, Telford College, Telford and Wrekin Council, West Midlands Ambulance Service, West Mercia Police, Pertemps, Jaguar Land Rover, Shrewsbury College, Quorum Logistic Support Ltd and many more, to network and meet their local Army Reserve unit.
As well as being treated to an excellent lunch by the unit chefs, a number of presentations were given to guests by Officer Commanding for D Squadron The Royal Yeomanry, Major Jules Ward about the unit’s activities and the support of employers, and Darren Knight, HM Forces Liaison Manager at Pertemps Network Group, about the Armed Forces Covenant and the benefits of employing Reservists.
It was also a valuable opportunity for guests to learn more about the types of activities Reservists might undertake, understand the role of the Armed Forces Covenant, and the role of the military in the community. They also had the opportunity to get hands on with some of the squadron’s vehicles and top army kit!
The Royal Yeomanry are a light cavalry reconnaissance regiment and operate by gathering intelligence on the enemy and the local environment; often at night and in poor weather conditions. One of their regiment’s highlights is their light armoured vehicles which have high-tech communications systems and weaponry – including the famous Jackal reconnaissance vehicles.
