West Midland RFCA were not only sponsors of one of the awards at the Shropshire Chamber Business Awards 2018, but they also presented their own awards to Armed Forces personnel.

The Shropshire Business Awards, in the 18th year, are open to all businesses in Shropshire and this year presented 17 awards.  The finalists are all invited to the awards evening which was held at the Telford International Centre and was a real celebration of all the nominees’ success. The key note speaker at the event was Major Sandy Hennis who spoke about the expedition her and the other Ice Maidens undertook.

West Midland RFCA sponsored the Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality award that was won by The Shrewsbury Club, a health and fitness club in Shrewsbury.

It is important to be able to recognise the work members of the Armed Forces do on a day-to-day basis and as such West Midland RFCA presented their own awards within the Shropshire Chamber Business Awards. The award presented on the evening were:

Best Regular – Chief Technician Kerrie Stevens

Best Reservist – Lieutenant Colonel Maggie Durrant

Best Cadet Force Adult Volunteer – Sergeant Major Instructor Kevin Pound

Best Cadet – Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major Beth Bright

The awards were preceded by each winners citation read by Colonel (Ret’d) Richard Maybery, the Chief Executive of West Midland RFCA and each award was presented by Colonel Rosie Stone, Deputy Commander (Reserves) for 11th Signal and West Midlands Brigade.
