West Midland RFCA’s Regional Employer Engagement Director, Debra Barton, attended the Last Post ceremony at Menin Gate, Ypres in Belgium, on 9th November 2018.

Debra with wreath at Menin Gate Every evening since 1928 the Last Post has been played under the Menin Gate Memorial in Ieper at 8 o’clock sharp. The Last Post, the traditional final salute to the fallen, is played by the buglers in honour of the memory of the soldiers of the former British Empire and its allies, who died in the Ypres Salient during the First World War. Members of the public who were not taking part, lined the pathways and streets outside the gate to watch the Ceremony.

Debra took the opportunity of her trip with friends and family to lay a wreath on behalf on West Midland RFCA and commented “I felt very proud and honoured to be at the Menin Gate at such a historic time, remembering those who have fought and lost their lives for our Country. To be a part of the Last Post ceremony, is something I will always remember.”
