On Wednesday 11th February, students and staff at Phoenix Collegiate hosted an all-day fitness challenge, raising funds for Help for Heroes by cycling, running, and lifting weights.
Participants committed to covering as many miles as possible while also taking on weightlifting challenges. Despite demanding conditions, students showed exceptional resilience, determination and teamwork, motivating one another to keep going and maximise their fundraising efforts.
By the end of the challenge, the collective achievement was outstanding. Participants travelled a total of 585.5 miles and lifted an incredible combined weight of more than 100,000 kilograms; the equivalent of lifting four World War 2 tanks. Every mile travelled and every kilogram lifted contributed directly to the funds raised for Help for Heroes.
Ongoing Commitment to Cadets and the Armed Force Community.
The school established its Combined Cadet Force (CCF) programme in June 2017. Through the CCF, Phoenix Collegiate aims to deliver high-quality training and life changing experiences for young people, while helping students develop confidence, leadership skills, and a strong sense of responsibility that extends beyond the classroom.
This dedication to supporting the Armed Forces was formally recognised in 2025, when Phoenix Collegiate was awarded the prestigious Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Gold Award, becoming the first standalone secondary school in the country to receive this highest level of recognition for its support to the Armed Forces community.

This achievement is a credit to every student and member of staff who took part on the 11th February. The event also serves as a clear example of the schools continued effort to support the Armed Force community and the positive impact this has both within the school and beyond.
