Vacancy for Cadet Commandant
Staffordshire and West Midlands (North Sector) Army Cadet Force

The Cadet Commandant appointment with Staffordshire Army Cadet Force will become vacant in early September 2019.  The Headquarters is located in MOD Stafford and is responsible for a County Cadet Force that comprises of 891 Cadets and 197 Adult Volunteers who parade at 37 locations throughout Staffordshire and the West Midlands (North Sector).

The post of Cadet Commandant is a voluntary appointment that allows the incumbent to claim up to a maximum of 50 days’ ‘Volunteer Allowance’.  There will also be an entitlement to motor mileage allowances whilst on official tasks and residence to place of duty for routine attendance.

Under the terms and conditions of the new Cadet Force Commission and the Cadet Manual, the successful applicant will assume the appointment in a substantive rank dependent on eligibility. To be appointed as a full Col the applicant must have served 3 years in the rank of Lt Col/Col in the Regular Army, the Army Reserves or the cadet movement.  Majors and Lt Cols who do not meet the promotion criteria above can apply, but will if successful, be appointed as a Lt Col until they become eligible for promotion to full Col. All applicants should be under the age of 62 on the date of application.

Vacancy for Brigade Colonel Cadets
Headquarters 11 Signals And West Midlands Brigade

The subject appointment will become vacant in early September 2019. The Headquarters is in Venning Barracks, Telford and is responsible for the four County Cadet Forces within the West Midlands area as well as the Cadet Training Team in Dawley Bank, Telford.

The post of Colonel Cadets is a voluntary appointment. Under the terms and conditions of the new Cadet Force Commission, the successful applicant will assume the substantive rank of Colonel. They will be eligible to claim up to a maximum of 50 days’ ‘Volunteer Allowance’ and will be entitled to residence to place of duty and motor mileage allowances whilst on official tasks.

Candidates must have served 3 years in the rank of Lt Col/Col in the Regular Army, the Army Reserves or the cadet movement and should be under the age of 62 on the date of application. Prior service as a County Commandant whilst not essential, is highly desirable.

Vacancy Notice - Cadet Quartermaster
Herefordshire & Worcestershire Army Cadet Force

Applications are invited for the post of Cadet Quartermaster with Herefordshire & Worcestershire Army Cadet Force, based in Suvla Barracks, Hereford.

The current salary for this post is £28,859 (all hours worked), which includes an enhancement for working unsocial hours and for hours worked in excess of standard hours. The successful applicant will be eligible to join the Council of RFCAs Pension Scheme. This is a Career Average Revalued Earnings (CARE) Scheme.

Applicants should preferably have had previous experience in either the Regular or Reserve Armed Forces and have wide administrative experience with a sound knowledge of stores, accounting, supply, maintenance, vehicles and logistic support. They should be familiar with aspects of military staff work and possess good IT skills.

The appointment is for a probationary period of six months in the first instance after which it may be confirmed as a permanent position.

The successful applicant as a condition of employment will be required to join the Army Cadet Force and will be appointed to the paid rank of Captain, and would be paid the appropriate rate for any training carried out in accordance with current regulations, in addition to the salary quoted above. Applicants will be required to provide two suitable referees and must undergo Security Clearance and a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Regional Employer Engagement Director
Defence Relationship Management

Applications are invited for a Full-Time Regional Employer Engagement Director (REED) at the West Midland Reserve Forces & Cadets Association (WMRFCA). The post, which is available immediately, is based at the Association’s Headquarters in Harborne. The REED is lead for the delivery of regional employer support and employer engagement and is responsible, through the Association’s Head of Engagement and Chief Executive, for the Association’s compliance with the MoD’s Directorate of Relationship Management (DRM) Business, Marketing and Communications Plans. The REED manages the interface between regional employers and the Ministry of Defence (MOD). Developing and maintaining partnerships with organisations throughout West Midlands, the REED offers advice and support on employing members of the armed forces community, whether they be Reservists, Veterans, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers or military spouses. As well as directly managing relationships with employers, the REED also delivers a range of prestigious engagement events throughout the region. The REED’s work really matters. As a key delivery agent of the Armed Forces Covenant, the appointment plays a crucial role in developing meaningful, mutually beneficial links between the Armed Forces and wider society throughout the West Midlands.

The Role

  • Actively manage relationships with major regional employers in support of Defence objectives.
  • Work closely with military counterparts to deliver multi-layered partnerships across key accounts.
  • Tailor the Defence-employer proposition to individual organisations, maximising attractiveness and ensuring genuine mutual benefit.
  • Act as a support for reservists and specified employers alike in providing a range of relevant guidance and advice on reservist/employer issues.

The Person

  • Strong background in account management or comparable client-facing work; Defence understanding preferable but not essential.
  • A credible and confident communicator with a high level of emotional intelligence.
  • The ability to engage with senior people across corporate, public, political and military sectors.
