Go karts ready on the start line.Veterans from across the country battled to be crowned the winner of the first veterans karting championship held in October 2022.

Run by Mission Motorsport in partnership with TeamSport, their 2022 karting programme invited veterans to attend a number of free karting sessions at TeamSport venues. Veterans who finished in the top three podium positions at each location were then invited to take part in the finals at TeamSport’s Birmingham venue.

As well as supporting veterans and service leavers in the community with the karting scheme, TeamSport are also supportive of the forces community within their own workforce. To publicise their support they signed the Armed Forces Covenant at the championship event, publicly pledging that no member of the forces community should face disadvantage. The covenant was signed by Wing Commander Rob Williams, on behalf of the MoD.

The company champions and values the transferable skills and experiences those in the wider forces family can bring to the organisation.

Will Lockwood, Learning & Development Manager at TeamSport, is one veteran who has had first-hand experience of TeamSport’s forces-friendly environment and commented on the organisation’s support: “TeamSport were delighted to sign the Armed Forces Covenant. We are proud to support our serving personnel, service leavers, veterans, and their families when it comes to transitioning back into civilian life. TeamSport are excited to be able to actively recruit from that talent pool without prejudice and have been, and will, continue to be avid supporters of service personnel and veterans.

“I joined the Royal Navy at 17 and served 8 years before transitioning back to civilian life. TeamSport recognised my transferable skills and over the last 6 years I have had several promotions. I joined as a General Manager looking after a team of 30, now I head up the Learning & Development Department. I look after the personal and professional growth of over 1,000 crew members and we are still growing”.
